Welcome… Again
The Uterus Spaceship Website originally launched in January of 2023. Its launch tied into a gallery exhibit called “Trade Fare Social” at the Angel’s Gate Cultural Center in San Pedro featuring artwork with the goal to engage the community through participation. The sculptural form of the Uterus Spaceship was on display, along with a QR code leading to the website, with an invitation to contribute content. The ask was for stories or artwork related to uterus ownership and reproductive rights. The website for the exhibit lives here: https://angelsgateart.org/exhibitions/trade-fare-social/
During the opening reception, I hosted a cut-out animation site with a variety of uterus spaceships, environments, and accessories to choose from. The animated work can be seen on the gallery tab of this site. This work ended up being the only participatory aspect of the Uterus Spaceship’s exhibition.
Unfortunately, no contributions came in through the QR code link call for participation. It served as a learning experiment. It was a big ask to request casual gallery goers to send me their stories and their artwork.
I tried posting a request for content on Facebook as well, but received only one contribution from my friend Sara Q.
In retrospect, these methods to invite content were pretty passive, thus I should not have been surprised that the site never generated any interest or momentum.
So, we are going to try a new direction, namely direct methods to invite content, art, and other perspectives into this online galaxy space. Through personal R and D, and in-person conversations, I hope to populate uterusspaceship.com with new artists, stories, and perspectives.
Stay tuned.
